History and Culture of Islam Program Hosts MBKM Curriculum Development Workshop
From Friday to Saturday, November 19–20, 2021, the History and Culture of Islam Study Program of the Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences at Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University Yogyakarta held a Workshop on the Development of the Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) Curriculum at the Grand Mercure Adisucipto Hotel. The event was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences, the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs (Vice Dean I), all lecturers from the History and Culture of Islam Study Program, and representatives of stakeholders. The intensive two-day workshop featured two keynote speakers: Prof. Dr. Purnawan Basundoro, S.S., M.Hum. from Universitas Airlangga Surabaya, who delivered his session on the first day, and Prof. Dr. Ir. Sukamta, S.T., M.T., IPM. from Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, who presented on the second day.
The first day of the workshop began with an opening ceremony, followed by a general discussion of the draft MBKM curriculum for the History and Culture of Islam Study Program, led by the Study Program Head. This discussion included a detailed review of the MBKM curriculum across three main clusters: core scientific competencies, professional strengthening, and in-depth material courses. After the Friday prayer, Prof. Dr. Purnawan Basundoro, S.S., M.Hum., delivered his material titled "The Independent Curriculum for the History and Culture of Islam Study Program." The session included an insightful discussion in which Prof. Purnawan shared his experiences as the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at Unair and his implementation of the MBKM curriculum at his institution.
On the second day, Prof. Dr. Ir. Sukamta, S.T., M.T., IPM. presented on "The Concept of Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka in Policy: From the University, Study Program, to Stakeholder Levels." He also shared his practical experience in implementing the MBKM curriculum at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. The event then proceeded with a comprehensive review of the History and Culture of Islam Study Program's courses for each semester. This session specifically discussed which courses could potentially be designated for credit conversion should students choose to exercise their right to study outside the program under the MBKM scheme. Furthermore, the discussion focused on structuring the curriculum sequence effectively to ensure that, even if students pursue independent learning options, they still complete the core identity courses unique to the History and Culture of Islam Study Program at Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University.
