The Islamic History and Culture study program was first established in the 1970/1971 academic year. Its establishment is based on Regulation of the Minister of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia No. 5 of 1963 and Decree of the Director General of Islamic Community Guidance No. Kep/D.IV/218/74. In 1997, the department was renamed the Department of History of Islamic Civilization. However, following discussions on implementing the Competency-Based Curriculum from 2002 to 2003, the study program reverted to its original name, namely the Islamic History and Culture study program.
